To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the theatrical release of “Sleepless in Seattle,” the Empire State Building has teamed up with the Space Needle for a special themed collaboration at both iconic landmarks. The celebrations include simultaneous lightings, special screenings of the beloved film, activations at both attractions, and a sweepstakes for two winners to relive the movie magic on a weeklong trip to Seattle and New York City.
Simultaneous Lightings
On June 30, both the Empire State Building and the Space Needle will light up together to kick off the celebrations of the momentous anniversary. The Space Needle will shine in red as the Empire State Building will light in lavender and red with a heart spinning in the tower’s mast, to represent the “sign” that led Annie Reed back to the Empire State Building.
Special Anniversary Screening
On July 9, the Empire State Building will host a special, fan-only screening of “Sleepless in Seattle” on the Observatory’s 80th Floor. Guests will view the iconic scenes from the film and enjoy complimentary soda, candy, and popcorn. The Seattle Center will screen the film to the public from the heart of Downtown at the Mural Amphitheater. Tickets to the exclusive screening at the Empire State Building can be found online.
Festive Displays
From June 29 through July 3, visitors to both the Empire State Building Observatory and the Space Needle can recreate the iconic movie poster from “Sleepless in Seattle” and are encouraged to share with the hashtag #Sleepless30.
The “Sleepless in Seattle” Sweepstakes, which runs through July 21, will randomly select one winner to relive the cinematic moments from the film. The winner will receive a six-night trip for two to explore both Seattle and New York City with complimentary flights, exclusive tours of both attractions, CityPasses for New York City and Seattle, and stays at the Langham and The Pan Pacific Hotel.
